ABOUT ME:

As a child I loved walking around in the meadows and forests to explore plants and animals. I always had a magnifiying glass in my pocket and a nature book in my hands. I enjoyed watching the development of catterpillers and tadpoles, and as a teenager, I worked in a bird sanctuary in Bretany / France. The living world was like a big miracle to me that just waited to be explored and understood. Therefore, going into medicine and medical research came not by surprise. For my thesis, I went to Boston to do research in a genetics lab. Later on, I worked as a physician on the neurology ward of a hospital. Currently, I am working in clinical research.

I always loved books. But never could I have imagined writing them myself! I am deeply grateful that I got the opportunity to do so nevertheless. When my son was born, singing helped me to calm him down. Soon I started writing simple texts and melodies for him, often including interactive elements to foster his perception through different senses. At a certain moment, I thought that these songs could also be helpful for other parents and their babies. That’s how my very first book was brought into the world.

Since then, I have published a large variety of books and worked together with different publishing houses. Writing books for children about nature and science, that’s what I like best. I regularly offer science workshops for kids and actively engage in projects to help kids improve their reading skills and develop their love for science. I live in Neu-Ulm (Germany) with my husband, my three children, ten rabbits , a dog and - most of the time - some baby squirrels (from my squirrel sanctuary).

The Code of Life – Flying Eye Books

Description: A brilliant non-fiction book explaining the world of genetics and heredity to children

Why do children look like their parents? Why are some people blond and others brunette, and where do we get our eye colour from?

This book explains genetic theory, what genes are, why DNA plays an important role and what all these insights have to do with a curious monk. An exciting journey through the history of science, present-day genetic research and engineering and right through to the questions of identity – because who would have thought how much of our personality is defined in our genes and how interesting genes can be?
